If you haven't heard, the Manland camp out got rained out. Getting wet for an event like this is not uncommon, but drowning is another thing. When we looked at the radar Friday there was a huge system moving over the very place we were going be. Add to that, a second system would arrive the next morning. It is true we almost lost our "man card", but we were happy to reschedule.
On the positive side, Lex and Missy's mom surprised us by coming in on Friday afternoon (a day or two earlier than expected). It is so nice having my son home for the summer. This may be the last time the whole family will be together for this length of time. Lex will be in the song leading rotation for the summer, as well as preaching a couple of times. I'm sure you're not as excited as Missy and I are about this, but we appreciate you allowing us to express our joy. Family is precious. I'm excited for all our families getting their college students home over the next couple of weeks.
That being said, May 18th is Grad Night for our high school seniors. This year we have five young people, among those is one of my boys (reality has officially set it). As usual, Joel will be conducting things in the auditorium at 6:00 p.m. Come out and support all of these young people and their families. Just so you know, Joel has limited us parents to a 3 minute slide show. Of course we parents think you would want to see more pictures of our children, which is why you put someone like Joel in charge instead of me! Seriously, we are trying to respect everyone's time and will finish things off in the Coffee Shop with a few refreshments.
As far as next Sunday goes, it is Mother's Day. A bit of advice to those buying gifts for these special ladies: Don't buy them a dish washer, a new iron, a really cool mop, or anything that puts them to work. Flowers, homemade cards, jewelry (even cubic zirconium), a day to the spa, manicures/pedicures, or things they would really enjoy when they are NOT working. Guys, you can thank me later. As far as the Sunday sermon, I will be preaching a lesson on motherhood being one of the noblest of callings. Invite others to come with you. If you have visitors, bring them to our Coffee Connection before worship (9:30 - Fireside Room). There will be no Sunday evening 2:42 groups...spend time with your family - a gift of God.
Continue to look for those who sit around you who wasn't able to attend this week. Give them a call, send a card, maybe even make a visit. It they need extra attention let the elders or ministers know. Have a great week!
